Chick will not shut up!!!

After googling about electrolytes you could just give the baby chick gatorade or water with a tiny bit of salt and sugar.

I tried the boiled egg thing, but the chick will not peck. I took a cuticle pusher from my manicure set, which is wide and flat, and got a raw egg, cracked it open and stabbed the yolk. That poor chick acted like it was starving!! I didn't get it to eat much, and I can hear it crying again already, but at least it did eat something! I couldn't find a syringe, so that's why I did that. I figured if they can eat it boiled they can eat it raw as well. I'll have to try again in a little while, once it rests some. The poor baby couldn't stay awake in my hand after the first few bites!

Any idea why it won't peck?? This is a new one on me!

hehee maybe it sprained it's beak while hatching?? LOL I don't know that's a new one for me too... Glad you got it to eat something though!

I think it just fails to put pecking with food intake for some reason. You have a "special" chicken... You may have to give it liquidy foods that you can stick on it's beak for awhile until it gets the idea. That's why I was thinking really runny mash. Just take the normal starter mash or crumbles and mix with warm water until you get goo or runny oatmeal consistency then squish it on it's beak avoiding the nostrils.

Mind you, I'm new and haven't tried this, but I read somewhere that if you mix a tablespoon or so of honey up with a cup of warm water, and give them that to drink... sometimes some chicks that are having issues can perk right up and get better in a few days.

I have had several weak chicks and none of them would peck to eat. I have always had to do it for them...and have always given the egg yolk raw. Honestly, the chickie may not make it, but more times than not I have had the weak ones thrive and grow and go on to be beautiful adult chickens.

The one chick I lost out of my last hatch was pretty much exactly as you're describing this one. Never stopped peeping (LOUDLY), curled toes, refused to eat. I could get it to drink by dipping its beak, and I did make boots for its feet, tried setting it in a cup stuffed with paper towels to keep it upright when it got weak, fed it honey-water, but it just faded over the course of those first 3-4 days until it died. In hindsight I kinda wish I had put it down early, but it's one of those darned if you do, darned if you don't situations. Good luck with yours.
