We just hatched 2 silver grey dorkings from a local breeder and they were the only 2 out of 12. That is disappointing, but both chicks are leaning over and holding one leg out straight. We hatched 8 from our own who appear to be problem free. Any suggestions on how we can help/correct this?

Hello and welcome to BYC! :welcome

Could your chicks have splayed leg? Are they holding the leg out while walking or sitting. Can they walk? I will attach a photo of a chick with splayed leg and a photo on how to fix it.

Splayed leg can affect one or both legs.

Here is how to correct it

Looks like it. We have done as you showed us. How long do we leave them on?
My friend just hatched a chick with splayed leg. Doing something very similar, she was fixed in a day. I would suggest leaving it on for 2 hours, and then checking progress. Then put it back on. Keep doing this until she can walk. Make sure she can eat and drink, and receives heat from a brooder heat lamp like normal. Keep me posted on her progress! :)

Ok, well they seem to be having a hard time figuring it out, but we will see how they make out. Thanks for your advice. We will keep you posted.
They may not be able to walk, even with the splint on. If you don't see improvement using this splint, try putting two holes in a flat makeup pad or sponge and put the chicks legs through that. Then use medical tape to wrap the knees of the chick. You may have to just put the chick under a heat lamp, and bring the food and water to her. Best wishes and good luck! Thanks for keeping us posted! :)
