Chick with skin ripped off (WARNING! GRAPHIC PIC ADDED!)

Oh Cyn, I just saw your post! I hear you... you get one bird well, and another takes over in the sick-ward! Sounds like you're doing everything right... he may not like it, but good old-fashioned soap and warm water is good, too.

If he's separated and in a clean environment, he should close up within a couple of days and be just fine.

Man, it never ends, huh?

Silly little adventurer is healing up nicely. He even is allowed, with close supervision, to run with his mama and two sisters. She was pitiful, looking for him. She heard him up inside the house cheeping to get out of his brooder and ran all over trying to find the little guy. Looks like something just ripped a swath of feathers out of him, but in a few days, I think he'll be ready to go back to mama.

I'm glad that he is healing up nicely. It's great that he can spend time with Mom and his sisters, then when he's ready you will be able to give him back to Mom full time!

poor little guy, good he has visiting hours with his family. What do they bring him?

You will need to now have Tom build a "clinic" coop out there by the way things are going. You will be so smart on healing poultry we all won't need a vet.

Glad he is doing well. I started working AGAIN so not on much anymore so I do hope your dad and Zane are doing well? Prayers are with you and yours.

Dad is in rehab every day. I don't talk to him every day, he is about two hours away from here. Zane is doing well, semi-standing many times during the day. He's still crowing and his color is great! He's working on that one weak leg, trying to get it to cooperate with him.

Zane is strong hearted enough to do his own therapy now. Go Zane

Something time will heal now.
I pray your dad keeps his strength up also. Hope he is a very stubborn man in a good way.

Don't have time right now to check & see if someone else has already made this suggestion. In case not:
Sprinkling Aeromycin powder on the belly of a chick born with a raw navel can help it heal. It provides antibiotic help without keeping the wound soft and raw. Perhaps sprinkling some on your chick's wounds would be helpful.
Best wishes! So sorry it happened

I am glad he is healing. I always feel so bad when they are injured (chicks or chickens) because you really don't know what pain receptors they have and what they have to tolerate.
