So I have baby chicks going into their 3rd week. This one baby chick had what I thought was an impacted crop. It was about the size of a peach pit, pretty large. We gave her some olive oil, separated her without food and it went down. Put her back in with the other girls and it's back. Separated her, olive oil, went down. Now it happened again right after putting her back in. She gorges herself and the crop gets huge.

I'm not sure if its normal for a crop to get this big and hard if I should just wait to see if it goes down after a day or two. Is this a yeast infection in her crop What are the options. I can't keep separating this chicken for the rest of her life every night, just won't work. Any ideas appreciated.

Summary:
Chick swollen crop. Didn't go down overnight. Separated her, gave olive oil. She took several giant poops and crop went down in a few hours. Put her back with others.
The day I put her back she had swollen crop again. Repeated the above.
3rd-time swollen crop. Keep repeating the same steps forever?

EDIT: Water available 24/7, chick starter also available 24/7 unless she is separated.
Thank you for any advice.

Also, are you using a heat lamp? If yes then they will be eating throughout the night so their crops wont be empty in the morning.
Hi Mamatomany,

Yes I am using a heat lamp and actually added extra heat which turned out to be too warm for them.

Thank you for all your help. I have kept the grit in there constantly instead of just giving it once and awhile. Her swollen crop is not as big as it was yet she still seems to have a slower moving crop than the others. Providing the grit 24/7 seems to be helping. She might have a yeast problem as the crop feels like dough. Before her crop felt like the crumble she was eating. Perhaps she just has a slower crop and system?

Thank you. To give an update she has been better and not had a swollen crop. I'm not sure if she outgrew it or if having grit in their 24/7 helped or if it was the oil. Either way she's a big happy and healthy chick. Knock on wood she stays healthy.

Thank you for the response. Ill keep this in my mind for when they have chicks. :)

I'm so happy to hear she's fine . Well i know mostly people suggested to give grit all the time & I know it's good for health in digestion but many times I personally notice chickens and chicks who are growing go crazy over grit and eat alot all the time which can obstruct them internally . I give grit once a while in a week grit stay in gizzard for atleast 5-6 month when I notice they poop grit I start giving again
