Chicken ate my earrings. Need advice.

Thank you all for trying to help with my chicken. Yesterday was very emotional because I've never lost one of my critters before.

They are all like my kids and I blame myself for being so dumb about wearing jewelry around them. They don't know any better and it's my job to take care of them and protect them.

Penelope had managed to hop on top of her food dispenser and poke her head through the side of the box she was in. I guess she lost her balance and ended up choking. I found her that way.

My husband did the horrible deed and examined her for the earrings. He found one in her gizzard and the other perforating her digestive tract before the gizzard. He said she had blood clots and infection around the post and she would have died in a few days anyway and suffered a lot which would have been terrible.

He wrapped her up and buried her and said we can plant a tree for her. He likes to joke about eating them but he's really a softy.

Thanks again everyone for the hugs and understanding.

So sorry about Pentalope. Was an eye opener for me for sure, and your sharing this with the group may save one of us a future heart break.

I'm so sorry! Losing chickens is so hard. She's in a better place now!

A small update to say we are still planting a tree for Penelope but it will have to wait until it gets cooler.
In the meantime, my hubs got me 3 more juvenile pullets to add to the flock (the same age as the ones I raised from chicks). We decided to get a BR to honor Penelope. Her name is Jessica Jones Chicken.

Her two sisters are Peggy Carter Chicken and Carol Danvers Chicken (Cap for short). They're a marvel. (lol)
