Chicken Breed Focus - Ameraucana

Pics
Thanks for starting this thread. We are newbies to the world of chicken ownership, and we have 15 chicks who are nearing 7 weeks of age. Two are Ameraucana, and they are the biggest girls in our flock. They are also two of my favorites, one a large reddish brown, and the other changing rapidly into what I am guessing will be a wheton (she has the coloring of a hawk or falcon). We purchased them at our local feed store, and the tank they were in said "Ameraucana/Easter Eggers". I wonder which we have. I can tell you that our Buff O's turned out to be Light Brahmas :) Oh well - we are happy regardless.

Well, most feed stores get their stock from the commercial hatcheries, so they are probably Easter Eggers. That's okay! I love my EEs. Check out the EE thread here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/361185/easter-egger-club/6000#post_15296479. Have fun raising them, they are wonderful. ;)

Agreed - we are happy either way.

Here is one if my (gulp) girls. Please tell me this is a hen...

Thanks! The gal at the feed store has had a flock for many years. She said last spring she was just about ready to load up three unwanted roosters for drop at farm down the road, but they all started laying. She was shocked and now waits to be very sure. Fingers crossed!
