Chicken Breed Selector Test

All of the data points found on this page will be included in the breed search tool. Basically all characteristics will be selected by default and as you remove certain characteristics you'll remove breeds that don't match that list, for example, you could search for all breeds that:

Are standard size
Are dual purpose or egg layers
Lay a lot of large, brown eggs
Have a single or rose comb
Don't tend to be broody
Are fine in cold or hot climates
are easily handled and bear confinement well

I think one of the only things we didn't really capture in the DB is feather footed or not... we may want to eventually add that to the DB.

The new chicken calculator covers more than colors.
The breed selector I have started working on would be linked to this calculator of course.

I could link it to the breeds database of this board too if I could query for breedname alone instead of breedname+id.
Is there a webservice available?

A lot of these characteristics asked are very thin ice. I mean they are not breed-typical attributes.
More like individual characteristics.

We went back and forth on making it super "easy / basic" vs. having all the tons of options... we opted for the latter to give everyone as much granularity as possible.

Now me, personally, I'm convinced that the only breeds any of us really need can be found among the Big Five or their crosses. Im not much for yard-confetti chickens.

But in the spirit of the thing, I gave it a shot, and got - nuttin. It didn't give me anything but some crummy commercials below.
I didnt ask for anything weird or try to trick it, either. In fact, I tried to make it easy and get a Big Five candidate. Not happenin'

Im reminded of the scene from Jurassic Park, where Malcolm says, "You all got so caught up with doing it, that you didn't stop to ask if you should be?"

What do these do that are an improvement over the other?

Would be great if an option could be for Heritage birds too. Will go test now.

Nice, it came up with one breed of chicken I already have. One complaint, all boxes are prechecked. It caused me an awful lot of un-necessary clicking. I would prefer if the boxes came unchecked. Then I could check only the boxes I wanted checked.

Also, a choice for "It doesn't matter" on egg color would be nice.
