Chicken breeders or Folks in South Africa?

well done , at least those won't be stolen lol , we have just had a total of 75 chicks hatch which is our best hatching so far , we are seriously going to have to swap chickens one day lol.

Yip the girls are very excited my sister wants to build more incubators lol.

I want to get more silkies later they are adorable.

One of my silkie hens was trying to hatch a rock this morning it was hilarious, I gave her an Australorp egg to sit on she is very happy now.

The other hen wont share her eggs, there is about 8 that I can see (I think she stole all the eggs for herself), I had to put food and water close to the nest because she wont move off of it.

hehe , we do the same , we have made one of our old outside rooms a brooding room, each hen now gets her own little division with food and water in it to sit on her eggs , we seem to have a never ending supply of broody hens at the moment, one hen hatches a few chicks and the next day we have 5 new broody hens, if this carries on then our incubator is going to have to be switched off for now lol

maybe a good thing I hear load shedding is making a return.

Does anyone know where I can get more silkie hens in the Limpopo area? I want to get 3 more hens to keep the roo a bit more occupied and leave the two existing hens in peace to sit on their eggs. They were not kidding about the silkies being good breeders lol.

@Nanna34 Those silkies are GORGEOUS! And so white and shiny! My white Penelope has been looking like a dirty rag the whole of winter, I think now that the weather is improving it might be time for a bath.. I love how alert your roo is looking, always ready to protect his girls! What are their names? Sorry if I missed it, have been out the loop a little..

@hedz82 I love my silkies

the roo is Puff and the hens are Satin and Silk, they are about 3-4 years but still very good brooders, the previous owner neglected them a bit they were covered in lice and the hens eggs are very thin due to malnutrition but they are looking much better. Apparently my roo is not show quality and I should not breed with them but I have loads of people begging for chicks

lol so I'm going to breed with them.

And I am adding to the flock today
