Chicken breeds that lay eggs less frequently but lay longer

Would GLWs do well in heat? How many eggs do your Welsummers and GLWs lay in a week, and how long have yours laid eggs?
Out of 6, we get 4-5 a day (for welsummers). Our Welsummers are still young though. They are heat tolerant.

GLWs lay 1-2 eggs a day here, but not during molting seasons. They are old, 6-7 years old. Still lay good. They do okay...in CA heat. Not sure if thats anything compared to TX.

The ornamental breeds generally lay fewer eggs, but lay for longer as do the bantam breeds or other breeds that go broody. I've had bantam hens still lay a few eggs past the age of ten. Of course, having these breeds means dealing with hens that are constantly going broody. This is something I like. By allowing them to hatch a few chicks, the flock as a whole never stops producing.

All egg production breeds will have a similar length of time that they lay eggs.

In 2017 we got 3 leghorns and 3 Isa browns, we only have 1 leghorn left, all the Isa browns and 1 leghorn got sick and died after they were done laying. The other leghorn got killed by a dog. After that experience I want healthy chickens that will lay longer. I am interested in the Andalusians, I also will look into Swedish Flower hens.

I think I will stick with Dominiques, EEs, and Welsummers. I'm going to order chick's online, what is the best online hatchery? If anyone else has any breed recommendations please share them!

hello, can you help me understand this, I want to know if commercial layer chicks can be crossed with its male cock of the same breed to produce commercial layers.

Commercial? As in?

Yes they can be crossed. If you are talking about red sexlinks, the offspring of two red sexlinks will not carry on the sexlinkage. But if you are talking about something like an RIR, the offspring will be RIRs.
