chicken dance?

this is really crazy behavior from my hens. I have 2 that just started laying (19 weeks) every time I try to pick them up or pet them, they crouch really low and stomp their feet really fast. This is crazy because they used to really like being held and pet. It's like they're afraid of me now. Is this normal? I don't want to scare my girls, but I also liked holding them!!

They're submitting to you like they would a rooster. Completely normal...

They are squatting. It's a good thing, it = eggs soon.

When they do it, pet them down the back a few times, then they will fluff up and shake. Now you've mated with a chicken.

Yes. Yes. Eggs soon. I think my one squatted for about 2 weeks or so. Then yesterday....EGG!

And we call that the chicken dance too. My kids and friends think it hilarious.
