This may be a crazy question...

I look at my chickens pretty much daily. I have a buff orpington (1 of 3) who today I noticed had exposed ear holes. Its like the feathers over her ears are suddenly gone. All of the other chickens look normal, including my Americauna and Speckled Sussex. Any thoughts on why this could be? Should I be concerned? She seemed like she felt fine, acted normally, and even came over to eat some cracked corn out of my hand, which is when I saw this.

Help! :)

Sorry I don't have a picture. Ill try to get one tomorrow. Chicken seems okay, but now one of my other BO's comb suddenly went pale. I looked carefully at them both for mites/lice and didn't see any signs of infestation. Maybe they are about to molt? They are now about 14 months old and this would be their first molt.
