I've recently installed a Chicken Guard Premium automatic coop door opener. It's only been in since March 2021 and I've put the 4th set of batteries in today, because it refused to open, even though it said the last set had 50% battery life.
I had come to terms with having to change batteries every month, but the last lot had only been in for about 2 weeks (all new batteries of the type they recommend) and I wasn't getting a low battery warning or any other error message, it just reset the time to 0.00am and wouldn't function at all.
So firstly, has anyone else had this issue with the batteries only lasting a month in these units? I thought the website said it would run for about a year on one set of batteries. If it's not normal for them to run down so quickly, there is obviously a fault that is draining them.
And secondly, any ideas as to why it would suddenly fail, even though the screen had power, and said there was 50% battery life? I had no error message, no low battery warning, no red light at all. Just not enough power to operate the motor?
It's working now with the new set of batteries, but I don't have any confidence in leaving it to let my gorgeous girls in and out, if it is so unreliable. And if I have to be there to check it has let them out and closed again at night, there is really no point in having an automatic door!
