Chicken Haiku

She waits patiently...
Leaf pile in disguise surprise!
She mocks struts and clucks!

In honor of our first Ameraucana/EE whose feathers looked like fall leaves she would hide in leaf piles every fall near our fence line and the sidewalk and wait for passerby's... she would then explode out of the pile, leaves, feathers and noise... scare the humans good and then proceed to calmly cluck and strut up and down along the fence line looking at them... poor walkers would the realize “That chicken is laughing at us!” Only in fall would she do this. She knew no one could see her In the leaves and she was indeed mocking them.

Chicken digs in ground
Deep hole and dust fills the air
chicken bath is fun

I love Haikus!!! I have a whole book of them I wrote all nature related. These are my first chicken ones though. Fun!

Well, poetry has never been in my background, but at my age, I thought I would expand my appreciation with a little haiku about my chickens. Seems that after a long while sitting out there, this thread magically created a spark of inspiration to others who have offered much better Haikus then me.

Love it. I have a chicken run filled with deep litter of leaves, wood chips, and grass clippings. It is about 16 inches deep at present. My chickens love to dig deep down into the leaves and take a bath, almost completely covered. Sometimes I look outside and wonder where my chickens went, and they I see them buried deep in the leaves just relaxing in the afternoon sun. Good times.
