Chicken heating?

WOW, you are quite warm by comparison.

We spend several months never getting much above 32 for the highs. We also have lots of nights well below zero in winter.
We do not add heat and everyone is thriving, happy and active.

Remind yourself that even though you may be chilly the birds have feathered coats that they can never take off.

Thank you I will remember that I'm just over protective so I worry what type of chickens do you have??

As mentioned, if you bought cold hardy vs. warm tolerant chicks that may sway how they adjust, but that being said I would let them adjust to the temperature changes on their own and they will do much better. I live in NW Indiana, so, well..........Indiana, but I have always read and talked with chicken people that the birds without provided heat do better (sickness, temp changes, etc) Chickens do make their own heat, and do a good job. As long as they are in a sheltered, draft free area with ventilation, they should do fine. Also, if they are used to heat and for some reason lose it (power outage) they may do worse than having adjusted on their own. As for your lamp if you choose to heat, if it is infra red for animals and hung correctly you should be fine. Enjoy

Oh ok that makes sense I will let them adjust on their own to avoid them getting sick by mistake I read red sex links are cold hardy I worry still but I'll try to get used to letting them get used it on their own it sent get as cold as other people say their chickens live in & they sleep inside the house so I suppose they should be fine thank you & yes I feel the lamp is secured safely but I'll leave it off just to be safe

I have many days and nights in a row that hover in single digits, and often below 0*F. No heat. Flock does fine. They are out sunbathing at 35*.

Thanks my chickens are babied tho I think I spoiled them already cause sometimes they'll cry & cry I turn the lamp on & they stop crying but as everyone else has said they will adjust I will let them without it

Essentially, they're used to the light. Like a child with a night light. Keep it off. They'll get used to not having it on.

I have Brahma, black Australorp, black sex link, leghorn, and tiny bantam Cochin.
The tiny Cochin's are 6 and 7 years old, the leghorns are old too.

Essentially, they're used to the light. Like a child with a night light. Keep it off. They'll get used to not having it on.

Thanks I did so last night & after half n hour they stopped crying it hurt to hear them cry but I left it off & they slept fine afterwards

Those are all so nice I haven't seen any in person but I've seen pictures of them wow that is so impressive 6-7years mine are only 3 months

As noted above, once chickens have feathered in, they are well insulated for colder weather. 60 degrees is nothing.

It would help if you updated your profile to indicate roughly where you are located. Some questions are easier to answer knowing what type of climate you are in.

They can live a very long time although most do not.
I am always looking at them for anything weird or worrisome. I think it helps that the Cochin's do not lay much.

OK thank you very much I live in California it gets hot but right now in winter its decent around 70 in the day 60-50 at night for now
