Chicken Injured by Predator (Graphic Images)

Not sure if I like the looks of that yellow gunky stuff there.
Do you have a Tractor Supply near by?
If you do, the it would probably be a good idea to get him some antibiotics.
You can find Procaine Penicillin G in the refrigerated section of TSC.
Get some small syringes and 20 gauge needles too. Dosage is 1/4-1/2ml injected into the breast muscle daily for 5 days. Alternate sides each day. If he is a large fella, go with the higher dosage.

I would re-flush those wounds, see if you can work out some of those feather ends and snip those out. Re apply your ointment.

This may seem like an ignorant question, but can you use human prescribed amoxycillin on chickens if it does turn out to be infection?

Please keep us posted!
It's good that he's eating, drinking, crowing, etc., but if you even think there might be infection, it's better to go ahead and get the antibiotics going.

On injuries like that, I like to flush with Betadine solution first, then put triple antibiotic ointment on the wound, 2-3 times a day. You can cover it for a couple days, if needed to keep dirt out. I like to use the Telfa non-stick type pads, and vet wrap. Sometimes, a little adhesive tape is needed to secure the pad, before you put the vet wrap over it. It's not going to heal quickly, but it will heal just fine.

Probably in his water. That would probably be easiest and not stress him out as bad. How much should I put in per oz do you think?
