Using Blu-kote for a large wound isn't a great idea because it causes drying out of the tissue. It's wonderful for small wounds, though.

Blukote is good for minor scrapes, but I would use Betadine or saline, and then plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic on the skin deep wound until it heals some. Blukote has alcohol and gentian violet, food against bacteria and fungi, but it stings.

It's just the angle of the picture. At minimum, it would cover the worst of it. The saddle gives extra grip for the roo too so he wouldn't slip down the side. I've covered nasty wounds like this with them before

The hen I had get torn like that I made a extra long saddle for. Worked great.
