Chicken Lady to the Rescue...again *Update-she died :(

I'm so sorry to hear this ZooMummzy. You did your best and she is in a better place now.

One of my "special" chicks died yesterday, too. The one with the "blockage" gave up. We tried everything we researched to help the tiny little guy move his bowels, but nothing worked. I, too am glad he at least died in a soft warm environment and not the feed store bin. The one with the respiratory issues is doing much better. I think he will make it.
The one I rescued from the feed store with splayed legs is still active, eating, and pooping, but I haven't had any luck with the leg problems. I believe it is more than splayed legs. It looks more like his legs and feet are useless below the hock, where they bend. I tried the bandaid hobbles for 2 days, then his little joints got a bit red and swollen, so I did the little "chick chair". He was so distressed in it that I was afraid he would hurt his wings, flaying around. I do physical therapy on the feet and joints several times a day, when I hand feed and water him, but haven't seen any an improvement as of yet. I am going to call the avian vet we use for our parrots today to see if he will take a look at him and see if anything can be done. I don't know if he will see a chicken or not. He is rather expensive, but I don't know what else to do. It breaks my heart to see the little guy flopping around, and so distressed.

Good Luck to you. All we can do is try our best and pray for them sometimes.

Thank you and I am so sorry to hear about your loss as well

It is always hard but I do take comfort in the fact I tried and they knew love for their last moments. I will continue to send good thoughts for your others. I was never able to get the leg problems fixed but somehow both birds figured out how to get around even as they got larger. I was worried about that but they did it. I think it gets easier the longer they have the disability. Honestly, they are some of my best chickens. They have great little personalities and they seem to have this incredible will to live and get so much enjoyment from all the little things my other chickens take for granted. Best of luck to you and your little ones!

Like you, I believe miracles do and can happen. Every living creature deserves a chance and while it does take extra time and sometimes a little extra money, I have found what it gives back to me is so much more than what I put in to it. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter how much you do it still isn't enough, but I won't give up or stop trying. This is what I do

Thank you everyone

I do take comfort in knowing I did all I could. I never gave up and I never lost hope she would make it. She's in a happy place now doing all those chick things she never got to do. That makes me smile.

I am so sorry.

Perhaps it was better if she couldn't live happily with other chickens to move on to a better place. She was loved as much as any little creature could have been and I'm sure in her heart she was grateful.
