Chicken Math

Pics
I wanted 32 originally, my husband talked me down to 18, then in the summer banties were on sale at TSC, got 6 and another chick for my sister... which she never took.

Then we lost to predators during the fall and winter. Down to 12...

So, I bought a couple of chicks in Jan, a few in Feb, a mess in March, a handful in April, a moderate hatchery order in May... and we’re at 54 total as of today.

With a broody sitting on 8.

I started with 6 but the chicken math hit our family hard. My husband begrudgingly agreed we could get “a few chickens” that ended up being 6 including the one our neighbor gave us. Now we have built a good size coop and are expecting 9 more chicks September. At least I can say the chickens have won over my husband, his mother (a minor miracle lol), my mother and a good few of the neighborhood kids mostly thanks to our black frizzle cochin bantam’s very very fluffy butt and winning personality.

My chicken math is so messed up...originally we were getting 6...that multiplied into 16. Don’t ask me how it happened; I think it was the cuteness factor we didn’t take into consideration.
Me too! Same numbers and everything come September when my chick order comes. Even got the neighbor that gave me my original chicken in on the chicken math and he is getting 2 more with my order.

Back in August we kind of let our older chickens die off and we would get some new ones for the flock

We had 2 then 1 died the other one was devastated so we got her 4 pullet friends and then quickly that turned into 2 more pullet friends one pullet friend died so we got a hen to be her friend and then we got 3 more to show and then we got two eggs and hatched them and now have 12

1 to 12 in 6 months

Hmmm wonder if that would work on my husband, a few each month it wouldn't be as overwhelming for him lol.
