Chicken Math?

So I've heard this referred to a couple of times. What's the formula?

Can you spell it out ala chicken math for dummies? I am getting the sense that it means once you get into chickens they multiply endlessly whether by choice or not. Any way to add more subtraction and division to the equation? I can see this becoming a fast hobby, but I am hoping to establish my flock in the next few years and then be able to move on to other animals as well. I don't want my three acres to end up all birds, ya know? Is it mostly about controlling MY want for newer, prettier birds each year? I am usually good at limiting my hobbies. Mostly. Sometimes. Rarely.

1 breed = 1 chicken.

Silkies do not count. And I've heard that bantams are only 1/2 a chicken.

We use this to con our significant others to get more chickens.

It really doesn't make sense to me! We don't collect dogs like we do chickens

I started out with FOUR. Now I have 20. This all happened in a span of 5 months

ETA: but in chicken math, I only have: 9.

3 BR = 1 chicken
4 silkies = 0 chickens
2 ducks = 0 chickens (ducks don't count)
2 polish = 1 chicken
1 mutt = 0 chicken.. Minus the mutt.. Mutts shouldn't count.
1 RIR = 1 chicken
1 PR = 1 chicken
1 Del = 1 chicken
1 SLW = 1 chicken
3 cochins = 1 chicken
1 BO = 1 chicken

Total = 8 chickens

I think I have room for 12 more!

We started out w/ 3 Golden Comets and 3 White Leghorns. Then I saw a couple of EE's. Well I had to buy a minimum of 6 chicks, so I added a few more Golden Comets. I found a free roo, and had to come home w/ 2 adorable Marans/Wyandotte crosses when I picked him up. Farm swap = another EE, and my banty, and my BLR Wyandotte. Had my favorite chicken die, so I had to get a Marans, an Ameraucana, and Buff Orpington to make me feel better. Traded my 3 extra loud guineas for 2 Barred Rocks. I think that's all of them. And chickie season is coming around so ....

40-ish Brahmas = 1 chicken
2 black copper Marans = 1 chicken
2 Jersey Giants = 1 chicken
1 Cochin = 1 chicken
12 chicks = 0 chickens, chicks don't count
3 seramas = maybe 2/3 chicken - they're so small

Wow - I have 4-2/3 chickens! I wonder why I spend so much on feed!
