"Chicken mating behaviour”

My wife thinks I'm crazy, but our hens(who have never been around a rooster) will squat in front on you as if ready to be mated by a rooster so I grab them by the nape of the neck and top of the tail and shake them gently. They will shake when let go. I'm thinking it may help them lay eggs. We get 1 a day from them. Anybody??

Chickens don't need a rooster to lay eggs and simulating one will not induce her to ovulate. Those high production pullets and hens in commercial egg factories are never exposed to cockerels or roosters and they lay just fine.
