You did a good job stitching her. Keep us posted on how she gets along. Lots of retired ICU, PICU, NICU, and other nurses, docs, and medical people here. Most of us don't always have supplies at home or have access, but we sure can make do. The sterile saline recipe I was taught in school is 1 tsp of salt to a quart/liter of water. Bring to boil, then reduce to simmer for 15 minutes. Place in a sterile jar with a lid, and let cool completely.

Sooo... picking up the penicillin now. I need it, 22g needles, and syringes? It's one shot (in the breast) each day, for 4 days in a row?

Probably will need 20 gauge needles for the thick PCN. Most feed stores sell 3 ml syringes and they may come with the needles. Give 0.25 ml (1/4 ml)once a day 1/4 inch deep into breast muscle for 4-5 days. Alternate injection sites daily.

@Anabariful be careful of injection site soreness and watch for necrosis... I don't *think* penicillin causes injection site necrosis, but I would talk to Kathy @casportpony about it first... it can be drawn out with a needle and then given orally as well...

Before you inject the medication pull back a bit to see if you are in a blood vessel. If you get a blood return you will have to re-stick her (checking again for blood return).
I've never given a chicken an injection (just dogs) but the procedure is standard for all intramuscular injections.
