I have just moved to rural Tennessee near The Big South Fork National Park. My husband and I are building a home in the woods. I've ordered my coop and I am looking to buy chickens and guineas. I want chickens for eggs- and because I love chickens! I am getting guinea fowl for tick control. I've seen several copperheads and black snakes as well as a gray fox, hawks, and owls so I know I am going to have to deal with predators. We have two indoor cats and will get dogs after we finish building the house and we've put up proper fencing.

I am looking forward to learning more about caring for chickens.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I'm just going to come right out and say it: if you are building a house, BUILD A COOP TOO!! No coop that you ordered, unless it is from Carolina Coops or a similar outfit, is going to be a good coop for permanent housing. They are always viciously under-sized for the number of birds they claim to house, cheaply made and NOT predator proof. You can even get a shed and convert it and build a nice covered run onto it for your flock. You can paint it or design the coop to match your house colors and style!
