Chicken Nipple/Waterers

I ordered from them as well and their customer service was GREAT. I ordered both threaded and the push through ones. They called me Tuesday, the day after I placed my order saying the one was out of stock (I knew that when I ordered it) but that it should be in Wednesday and would ship Wednesday or Thursday and was that all right? Very nice and very FAST.

I LOVE the nipples (I can't believe I just wrote that).

WHat is t he difference between this and a rabbit waterer? Could you use either? Does the nipple attach to a bigger container?

I have 2 separate ones currently in use: an old one gallon water jug (like you buy in the store) with 3 or 4 nipples in the brooder which is holding 8, 3-week old chicks, and a 2 or 3 gallon white bucket from Home Depot that has 3 nipples in it for 4, 10-week old chicks in the coop. The water stays CLEAN, I LOVE IT. I had that typical chick waterer in there for maybe 2 days and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

THE PLAN: Currently they both stand on one of those wire shelves with the nipples protruding through the slats, works very well.
However, the plan is to use one of these (squat one on the left):

The white bucket will stay in the coop but will be hung, so there will be 2 sources of water for the 8 chickens that I keep.

So to finally answer your question, yes they work on bigger containers.

The rabbit waterer is intended for animals which have jaws and gnaw; that's how the ball moves in the tube. The poultry nipple works by being pecked, the metal bit moves to the side and releases the water.

The nipple can be installed into ANY plastic item you want to use. I have built several: 1 one gallon milk jug with a nipple in the bottom,

a plastic pitcher with a nipple in the bottom, a PVC tube with 4 nipples along it, fed by a 5 gallon bucket,

and a 5 gallon bucket with 3 nipples on the bottom of it.

Neato! Thanks very much! Maybe this is a silly question, but how do they work? I get how the nipple deal works...but what do you attach them to? How do you mount them? Etc...

Check out my byc page! Very easy and very inexpensive to make!

Thank you for sharing this! I LOVE IT! My hubby and I have been really frustrated with the EXPENSIVE and dumb purchased waters and have been on the search from a new solution.

Our issue with the purchased variety: the MESS (gross!, Chickens roost and POOP in amazing places) and the fact that most need to be filled from the bottom. The cheap waters esp. Then when you get done hauling water to the coop, filling the "top" of the water, you go the screw the base on and SOMETHING goes wrong, water everywhere...time to start over...

With YOUR neato idea and these nipples the MESS is gone and I can fill from the top. YAY! and thanks again.

Cheap and useful. Gotta love that!

Whoa! PVC pipe is genius! I LOVE this forum and all of you helpful peeps. What would a newbie chicken lady do without you!?!?!

A scary thought!

I'm going to have to try these myself... nothing like changing dirty water every day!

Are the screw in type or push in type the best?

Here is my setup using nipples from QC Supply. Works great! No more dirty water. Best of all since I have it hooked up to an old 30 gal water heater, I have enough water to go out of town without any worries!
