this happened to my dad! he had a gs and the neighbors dog ran into HIS yard and was attacked, my dad had to pay their dogs vet bill AND have his gs put down! and those nieghbors STILL let their little ankle biters run loose! oh and there IS a road they had to cross to get into my dads yard. so now he has a fence and the dogs arent allowed in the front. Amazingly, those ppl also have a fenced in backyard, which they never use for their dogs. some ppl. i just hope the dog owner gets in trouble for his dog being off leash. its whats fair and just.
Incredible isn't it? The GS in this case, while off leash in the front yard, was also under supervision of it's owner & followed a verbal command when called... He hadn't really bitten the puppy or not seriously because I don't think he even broke the skin which if that dog had been serious I mean it would have been a vet visit & it wasn't. As a matter of fact that puppy getting "bit by the GS" STILL was not rescued by my BIL going & getting it but if I recall the story correctly my BIL "heard the GS snap & saw him bite the puppy & then the puppy cam running home tail between his legs". You know I have 2 golden retrievers & I remember when they were pups & how clown like they can be & some times out of control where they'll slip out or just get by you.... For the incident (as in singular) like that these irresponsible people make other hard to the scenario of a puppy truly haven "slipped past me" & in many way I resent them for that. As far as the owner of this dog I can't imagine him getting another rescue this will be like wild fire & they make sure people have fenced in yards for the very control I speak of... It's *sad* that it has to be put into a contract for a dog to be cared for properly & yet they have all had to put in writing the owner must have a fence do we now have to put into writing a person must have their dog leashed too? And the REALLY sad part is the rest of us who would be able to have a dog off leash & still have it under control through training will end up with that freedom taken from us because others need to be watched over & threatened to take care of their pets... Even after the fact this man will do nothing different in his dog walking & he said that. how many of his dogs need to die???
