I could see that being a useful defence should the animal just be roaming your property. If said offender should come around at a later date and mess with your property it would be a very useful tool should the owner press charges ala the Harris case.

yes & a camera doesn't have to be used prior to shooting an animal but a picture of the carnage that was already created would be useful later on too. I think it's also a good idea to have a camera handy when/if dogs are just roaming a neighborhood. We don't need to wait until they're in our backyard to snap a picture. A picture of a dog/dogs trotting down the street prior to them arriving at your back yard tells a story & particularly if the pics are stamped with a date.... & video is even better. I would think "within city limits" there would be some kind of lease laws & a picture (& better a few pics) of a cronic problem tells a story. Mr. Harris looked to be having a cronic problem with all these stray dogs running around and I should think now after the fact a few pictures of them would be helpful. As for the phone well having to chase off black bears on a regular basis it's nice to have a phone in hand to call for help even after the fact, because it can all be so un-nerving (never mind dangerous) to come upon that kind of attacking in the back yard.

Or an incriminating thing. A picture of a dead dog covered in blood (and it's by no means always evident what the blood came from, the dog or the prey), is not exactly something I'd try to use to garner support from a dog loving community. I'd be very careful with things like that.

Perhaps the pictures of the dead birds from which the blood came from might be of a help though. The idea of pictures IMO wouldn't just be to get support from a dog loving community but rather proof that this man was defending his yard & live stock from a problem of dogs allowed to run loose. I wouldn't be using pictures to gain approval of the dog lovers but just to try to present my side *in court* that I was basically left with no choice. Just having dogs of my own in my yard I don't want some strange dog running in my yard. The idea that a dog could run in & tear up a yard or kill ones live stock even the dog lover should be able to understand as just not right. I understand it & I am a dog lover and as a matter of fact I've 2 golden retrievers. It isn't Mr. Harris I have an issue with but the owner who still allows the 2nd dog who's still alive to continue run loose. I don't care how much exercise a dog needs but allowing a dog to run loose is irresponsible & reckless. Most all breeders &/or rescue groups all *require a fence* for a reason and it's so a dog isn't teathered to a tree in the yard & to make sure it won't be allowed to just run reckless into a street.... They want an owner who is going to exercise *control* to keep their dog safe... A golden retriever who was allowed to run loose that hasn't had any training &/or that doesn't know this man more than 3 months & was clearly out of his range of control that is pictured dead with dead birds or who had rushed a fence etc. tells a story of a owner who was SO far behind this dog he had no control of it. It's irresponsible. Frankly it sounds as though this dog was completely out of his sight & the owner had no idea the dog had been shot until he was told. Dogs that are in the woods hunting with their owners & retrieving are not out of the site of their owners that long. They have control.... IMO a picture is worth a thousand words & words even the dog loving community could understand, though my target for the pictures would be a judge/jury to see that this is cronic and he was left with no choice but to act.

We are hoping and praying for justice for you Mr. Harris! A reasonable human must be able to see the right solution, here. At minimum the charges should be dropped.

Hopefully that stupid dog owner will at least get in deeeeeeeeeeep trouble for not having his dog(s) leashed and fenced.......

Hope and Pray.......

Prayers and good thoughts today, Mr. Harris. We'll all be running up the views on this thread checking in. May you get the justice you so deserve and have been denied thus far.
