Could the dog have died from a heart attack???? Has anyone confirmed the cause of death???

ETA:
SAS (Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis) is the most common and widespread form of heart disease within the entire Golden Retriever species. Before you breed your Golden Retriever, you should always have him examined for heart disease by a certified veterinary cardiologist. If the cardiologist detects a heart murmur, he will recommend additional tests for your dog.

That is what I was wondering. Of course, a pellet would not leave a very large wound and it may be difficult to find, but I would think it would have been necessary to determine for certain the cause of death before trying to charge someone for cruelty to animals for having caused that death.

I am very glad that things seem to be going in your favor, Mr. Harris, and I hope they continue that way. Hopefully, in spite of his comments, Mr. Gapp has learned better than to turn his dogs loose to run willy-nilly and cause whatever trouble they may. I sincerely hope that no more dogs have to pay the price for his ignorance.

Ok sounds like it wasn't the gun that killed the dog. Sounds like overexersion (sp)?

I understand he had only had the dog a short while, but how old a dog again? How big was this dog? We have a Husky, my mom cares for him as he likes to break chains and the landlord asked us to rehome him incase something could happen, but he is a BIG dog and I know he is at least 150 but my husband never dropped him while carrying him.

Or Heartworms??? Getting as excited as he did with the other dog and the chickens, that is not good on a dog with Heartworms, my grandpa lost 2 beagles that way while rabbit hunting, they were chasing the rabbits and dropped over dead. Vet said, after examination, that it was heartworms.

From my knowledge we don't have heartworms in the PNW.

When I was a kid we had a seemingly perfectly healthy newfoundland drop over dead from heart disease. He was chasing our horse...... (vet did necropsy)

"all this over chickens" uh... besides the fact that mr harris was afraid for his kids, are chickens less important than this guy's dog? what the heck?

if they're not considered livestock, then they're considered pets. Either way, why are chickens not important? Just cause the other guy lost his dog and is blaming his irresponsibility on whatever he can. It's disgusting.

Heartworms are getting to be where they are most everywhere, but I obviously do not know your area like I am sure you do

(not meant to sound snotty, if that did ... limitations of the written word). Whether they are there or not the dog could have had them, though. The dog was from a rescue, right? It could have come from anywhere. BUT ... since it was from a rescue, any worth their salt check for heartworms before they adopt dogs out.

Dog could still have been shot and show no visible wounds ... thick fur can hide a lot. I hope they did a necropsy and determined the actual cause of death, not that the media would report it if it turned out to be natural causes of any sort.

Even if it was natural causes, the dog owner would probably still blame the chicken owner. After all, if all those exciting squeaky toys in the pen hadn't been there, he wouldn't have gotten so excited. Or he would say that Ed should have realized that the dog was having a heart attack and called for a pet ambulance instead of trying to chase him off.
