I too think there are far more breastfeeding mothers now than in the 50's and 60's at least in the USA. I'm a big fan of it. I nursed my son until 16 months and my daughter for 2 1/2 years. My mother nursed all 3 of her kids until they weaned themselves. It is her legacy I hope to pass on to my daughter some day. My son has also been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. There is no one to blame for that other than heredity. I am sure he got it from my husband who went undiagnosed and his father before him. I think the reason for the epidemic proportions of mental illness and disease (I wouldn't categorize Aspies or Autistics as either) is that the process of getting a diagnosis is better than it was even 30 years ago. We have better technology and more people have access to it. I also don't think that immunizations cause Autism. It's just the age when they start to appear different because of their lack of progression. Autism caused by food allergies is also a big problem for me. To imply that eating the wrong foods could cause your brain to function abnormally is offensive to people who actually suffer with Autism and those of us who love them. If your child was diagnosed with Autism and a change in diet made them "normal", the child was misdiagnosed. Although I certainly wouldn't dispute a parent saying dietary changes had a positive impact on their Autistic child. The same could be said for all children, I imagine. I also do agree with what was said before about obesity being the cause of early puberty. Body fat ratios play an important role in fertility. Many female athletes will cease to menstruate due to a low percentage of body fat.
But back on topic: I believe that it is our right to use our properties to provide good wholesome food for our families. I also believe that it is the animals' right to live a healthy happy life while providing us with food. That was my reason for beginning to care for my own laying flock. I also hope to add a small flock of meat chickens at some point. I recently bought my first 1/4 of a grass fed pasture raised cow from a local farmer. We should all know where our food comes from. It is something that is lost to many.
