I know that stuff has so many uses and you wouldn't belive how much better she felt when I would treat her. I always use full strength I dont dilute it. I would recomend anyone with chickens to keep it on hand and the terrimycin ointment.

Thanks...Ive been having a hard time talking myself into cullin a bird that I really have "pampered" for over a month. I would have been more willing to when she was her sickest but now that she's almost better It was harder to decide.

Oh one more thing...I am correct on thinking that it does not pass through the eggs. right? So if for some reason she didnt completley shed this and she lays her eggs are ok to hatch right?

It seems you have decided on keeping her?

If so close your flock. No birds in and no birds out until she and all your other stock has passed away.

Any birds in contact with the disease will be infected even if you don't see symptoms.

It is this kind of situation that bodes ill for so many people around you.

Walking into a feed store (or any store for that matter) carrying traces on your clothes and shoes anyone can pick those germs up and take them home and set off a reaction in their own flocks.

There is a huge responsibility in owning a flock. Doing the right thing is usually the hardest thing to do.

Coryza will shed to the eggs.

some of my best dominique hens contracted coryza or i am thinking already had it when I bought them....I decided to get rid of them and keep only healthy hens...I dont have any dominque hens now...the guy who got my dominiques knew they had coryza and was familiar with it and treated them and was fine about it....I was not ...I told him he could have them or I would cull....You cant take a sick chicken to a sale because the state agriculture lady looks at them and if they have infected eyes she will quarantine your whole flock....I am not buying chickens from anybody I dont know or a sale again....I ordered mine thru a hatchery.....jmo

ok Ive said before my chickens are no where near her she is totally by herself. I dont do anything with her til after I've fed, watered, etc, the others. Once I do have anything to do with her I wash my hands and the clothes are washed. Shes in a bird cage on a shelf with stuff to block her litter from being thrown so no chance of trackin the disease on my shoes. Your sayin its passed to the eggs but the stuff I've read says its not. Even after I've used the med's on her I wash there containers with anti bacterial soap.

Anyhows I feel like Im gettin the cold shoulder for wantin to try and let this bird have a life.

I raise and sell birds to be able to afford to keep them. I'm not going to do anything to sell anyone sick birds. And I dont feel like I'm contaminating the whole neighbor hood by keeping her. Im takin good precaution.

Honestly, in all my research, I have not ever heard that a bird who is a carrier can ever shed that designation. I do not want you going on incorrect information here. I am not a vet, certainly, but you want facts, not just to grab hold of something because it sounds more promising. maymie, I'd like to know where you get the information that a carrier can become not a carrier with special care. That's a new one on me. Not saying it isn't true, but can you provide any documentation, testing results of birds who were carriers then were not later, etc. Just doesn't sound plausible to me. I agree that with proper care, a carrier bird may never come down with symptoms again (no stress), but to kick the carrier status, I just dont think so.
As far as VetRx, it is not an antibiotic. It has its uses, but cant cure anything, except maybe to suffocate leg mites, but even mineral oil can do that. It's just Vicks Vaporub for chickens to relieve symptoms, to be clear about it.

Oh I know the Vet Rx is not something to cure its just to help with the symptoms. I have heard of people using it before goin to shows to keep there birds from getting diseases not sure if that works or how it works but I think it even says that on the instructions.

As far as me knowin if the disease can be shed I dont, I have heard different things on the internet just by researchin the disease that they may not be a carrier for life but for a pretty long time.

Most of the things I have read does say it DOES NOT pass to the eggs. So I really only want to hang on to these birds to maybe get some chics if thats the case If not then I need to go another route.

Iwas goin to get rid of the rooster but Now I feel Like Im looked at like some kinda monster for going to sell him. so idk I really dont feel like he has it or has had it.

I dont feel like my whole flock is ruined now and I cant sell birds or get any. I have taken great precaution to not spred. I do think of others and Dont want to ruin anyone elses flock. technically I dont have a "flock" besides my babies ....I keep many seperate pens mostly with pairs and trios. No WHERE near this hen
