Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

I needed to pop in here and tell ya'll how my hatch was... This was also an experiment for washing/not washing eggs. I split it down the middle 1 White Orp, 3 Silkie/Showgirl WASHED...and 1 White Orp, 3 Silkie/Showirl NOT WASHED.

I had 5 out of 8 eggs hatch. Only one of the washed eggs hatched (a silkie/showgirl)...the other 3 died in the latest stages...day 19 or more.

All 4 of the unwashed eggs hatched. However, the one White Orp was born w/ it's guts outside of it's body, so we had to cull it.

That was hard to do.

On the bright side, I now have 1 new Silkie and 3 Showgirls to add to the farm. Pics are coming soon.

Or at least that's what my mom says!! I'm having trouble seeing them! 8 are due today and 4 more tomorrow.

I saw that in the other thread. Very interesting! I don't wash eggs that I am incubating, so I guess that's good. Sorry one little baby didn't make it.

My NYD hatch chicks are all feisty and well, although my two frizzle cochins (I think there are four but two are not 'frizzling') look like they could be roo-ish (very slow feathering).

Bummer! I wanted a big fat frizzle.

Nat/Sonew is sending me OE eggs + 1 surprise egg so I'll set those on friday or so, depending on when they get here.

That's what I told my mom, that it was just a brown spot! But she says "Can't you see the shell pealed back???" Uh Noooo!
Do you think those are pips on the side?

crazychicken: Any idea how long it'll take'em? I set them at 4:48 and they'e "Supposed" to hatch almost to the second you set them ..soooo they got around an hour!
