Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

I have a STRONG desire to hatch an emu, but it was expressly forbidden by my parents! Only $20 on ebay!

One of the emu egg sellers posted something like "Remember, at 6 months old, an emu will weigh 150 pounds, stand 6' tall and can run 30 MPH"! I don't know if all the facts are accurate, but it did make me think twice about wanting a pet emu! When I have my own place, perhaps I will CONSIDER a "Free-ranging House Emu" (with a diaper on, of course)!

Until then?

Lol, I love that....Addiction is a learned behavior? or is it gene based??? Ha! Congrats on selling those poultry Muggs! Hope I can sell 13 beautiful Heritage RIR's this week and 2 lovely Buff Orpington pullets and also looking to sell a small flock of welsummers! It would leave more space for some up and coming chicks!!! We had a very sad loss today, My netherland dwarf Lilly who was due to deliver babies in 4 days died very unexpectedly today...I was able to hold her for her last hour of her life but no intervention was possible. Autopsy showed nothing notable. No matter that we have hundreds of animals, I love each of them like my own child. The unexpected death ....of a seemingly healthy and young bunny still shocks me. I sold two of her three babies she had back in October...I wish I had kept them all.... But I have one precious living memory of her, her son. She was so sweet and little and even as she was dying nuzzled against me with the little energy she had left. Forgive me for digression here. I guess I had to say something. On the more positive note, we are still hopefully awaiting bunnies from our gigantic New Zealand.....If she's not pregnant, she's going on a diet and exercise program

I really wanted a BA Roo, but a friend of mine gave me 5 of her chicks she got from Meyer hatchery, all were pullets. My dog Gypsy killed my Silver Spangled Hamburg pullet and a coyote carried off my Easter Egger Brownie. I only have Coral ( BA ) and a Golden Buff hen and a Black JG pullet left.
