Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Still just the one chick hatched. I put it with the older chicks (4 three-week olds and 1 one-week old) and watched carefully for about 2 hrs non-stop. (Like that was hard to do, huh??)

The only issue is the littlest one gets bowled over by others running around. Being so young, it sleeps a whole lot more than the others, and they don't even notice when they wake up and take off, knocking it tail over beak. (Actually, it usually rolls sideways.)

It eats with them, drinks with them, snuggles with them, and all is good. SO freakin' cute!

Pictures!!! I couldn't find my digital camera for the longest time. Turns out, I knocked it into the trash in the den, which was under the table with the incubators. Thank goodness I saw the strap hanging out before garbage day...I'm off to take more pics now.

Two more BCM babies are peeping...so far these staggered hatches are working for us.

So I have a lot of projects going on. Duccles, Dutch Bantams, Buff Old English, and then I wanted to start two more Longtail projects and start breeding some Barred Cochins.

I gotta figure out what projects need to go and what ones im going to keep

OMGoodness - if you start a Barred Cochin Project..you must send me eggs! I've tryed to get BC eggs from 2-3 different BYC'er and they're all too high and are way too far away!!

Hi all!

I have read through this entire thread and I feel that I qualify to join. I am a chicken addict.

My family has had chickens my whole life, I have rarely eaten an egg that came from a store. When I grew up and had my own place and built my own chicken coop is when the true addiction started.

I love to sell farm fresh eating eggs to my neighbors and friends and I make enough to pay my feed bill so I love it. I had a smaller flock the past few years and I lost quite a few to foxes and old age. So last fall I got lots of babies to refresh my layer flock and I fixed my coop to a better fort knox to keep foxes out. I don't know the exact number of chickens I have.

My new crew is made up of Speckled Sussex, Black Austraulorps, and Silver Laced Wynadotes. I kept 10 of my older chickens that were my favorites: a white silkie, a black silkie, a huge white mutt hen, a Lavender Ameraucana hen and georgeous Lavender Ameraucana rooster, 5 half Ameraucana half silkie hens that my white silkie snuck in on me last year. That is my crew.

I really really want to add some Marans and some Wheaten Ameraucanas and some more Lavenders too. That is my wish list. I want a pretty egg basket with all the colors.

I love my husband sososososo much. I called him and said, "I'M SORRY!" first thing. He said... whaaaaat.

"You see, I was looking for those spangled hamburgs, right? And like...see this guy, he's selling his blue ribbon trio for sixty dollars.. and he just HAPPENED to have a golden pheasant also for sale for $40...."

"Did you get them already?"

"No......."

"Well why are you calling me? Go already!!!"

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Enabler!

....did I hear barred cochin??!
