Idealisticroo: You know that those momma's carry the lavender gene, so It could be a 3/4 Ameraucana or a 100% pure one. After it fluffs out, I will help you figure it's percentage.

I hope it is a pure one! That would mean my Lavender hen is actually laying eggs again! So no more action from any of the other eggs???

Thank you so much! I have always wanted Lavender Ameraucanas, but the eggs always go SO HIGH! All of the eggs I bought from you were fertile, I think the dry climate here is hard to hatch in! (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

I don't think it is just you...I had a delayed hatch, too. Some hatched on day 23 and I had 2 thermometers in there...temps were fine the entire time. These have actually hatched the "cleanest" out of all of my hatches. And fluffed up the fastest!

I think I am going to list some baby chicks on Craigslist today. My "Jungle-commando cage fighting romper room" (brooder) is getting crowded!

Featherz...wherever you are...DH did the broomstick method you described on a paralyzed cockerel last night.

He said he did it perfectly the first time, but the reflexes the chicken had after made him second guess himself...so he did it again. Sidenote...I told him this method would be easier (less messy, just as quick)...ummmm not so much...the cockerels head ripped off.

I felt so bad for the cockerel and knew this needed to be done...but it is still difficult to deal with the reality of it sometimes.

I told you about my broomstick method. I didn't pull hard enough, thinking the head would pop off.. heard the 'crack' but NO reflexive movement. She brought her head up and was NOT dead.I had to do it again also. Argh! I did it right the next time and didn't pop the head off..

It was very traumatic for me but it had to be done. I knew I had it right when she started flapping and jerking.

Oh mugs, forgot to say - there's a youtube video that shows someone doing the broomstick method. That's how I knew what the 'death' reflexes would look like. My chicken was so sick that I don't think she could have mustered up that much energy to flap while alive
