You're in good company here. We're all addicts.....and we know it......and we don't care !!!!!!!! We will love to hear your stories and promise not to roll our eyes or look bored. And bring on those pictures, we just LOVE to see other people's precious babies.

Daisychick...I can't believe you read through the entire thread! I'm impressed.

And like featherbaby said...PICTURES! When you are ready for hatching eggs let me know. I have all three (BCM, Wheaten and Lav Ameraucanas) laying now. My first Lav Ameraucana and BCM babies from my flock hatched 2 days ago! Woot-woot!

Lav Ameraucana, White Orpington (going to sleep) and Big Fatty Black EE chicks

What a good husband! It is nice having an enabling partner sometimes! I want to see that golden pheasant. I have been tempted to get a few Lady Amherst pheasants...sooo pretty.

Ok here are some pictures of my crew.

Here is my guy with all of the 18 week old teens hanging out in the background.

This is my 3 year old white silkie next to her baby picture. She has such attitude I love her!

My only rooster. He is so pretty. He is from Harry Shaffer.

Daisychick, what a magnificent Roo!!!! He is one handsome boy!!!!!!! The only problem I see with your flock is that you need MORE SILKIES!!!! HA! I have only Silkies and I just love them. I don't have room for full sized chickens so I'm a little jealous of your mixed flock. So I will have to content myself by enjoying the pictures of yours and others. I have to go out and hug some silkies now, bye.

featherbaby, I love silkies too, but my neighbors want eggs so I just have to have lots of big chickens to supply them.

Notice I said "have to"

I kept the 2 silkies with the biggest attitudes so they can hang with the big girls. They have never been picked on once, they really do hold their own. It is so cute to see how bossy they are with chickens twice their size.

Chandra,

Harry has some beautiful Lavs. A lot of my stock came from him, and what I understand is John Blehm used Harry's birds to start his Lav program. The only problem I have with such a beautiful egg basket, is I hate to crack open the green and blue ones...they are just so pretty!

Featherbaby...you hit it on the head. Silkies are awesome! I was so against having silkies when I first started, and now I love them! I've even moved on to raising freakazoid showgirls!

A second chick HAS hatched (last night) and I put it with its sibling in the brooder with the five other, older chicks. No pip that I saw, just suddenly a fully hatched chick!

My visiting friend - staying with me for a week - got to hold a newly hatched chick in her hands this morning.

Good morning everyone!

Gryeyes - glad to hear you are having some success with hatching!

I am at about a 2% hatch rate! I have 1 baby picture to show, it is a Lavender-ish from DaisyChick! I say ish, because it has a yellow beard.

Has anyone else noticed any baby Lavenders with yellow beards?

I don't care either way, it is cute, happy and healthy and I was not expecting Lavender chicks.

I love the tiny bit of eggshell stuck between its eyes, I figure it will fall off on its own, so I am not going to mess with it! It has membrane on its back and butt, I was glad to see it made a poop today, I was getting concerned that the membrane was covering the vent.

It had a rough time hatching, the humidity dropped and it had the lid stuck to its head and 1/2 of the rest of the eggshell stuck to its back! I microwaved a bottle of sterile saline solution, tested it on my wrist and dripped it between the chick and the shell. The shell released about 1/2 hour later!

Now, back to my addiction, I ordered 26 chicks from Ideal on Friday night (after a couple glasses of wine). I am going to write to them today and DECREASE my order. I am worried that they will all be cute and I will have to keep them all! I am going to cancel the 7 Rare Breed Pullets and the 7 Golden Phoenix. I have ALWAYS wanted Phoenix, but I am concerned that I won't be here in Rural-Ville long enough to see their tails develop to a magnificent length. I am only here temporarily while dad fights cancer, I suppose I will have to return to the city eventually. I guess I will save my Phoenix dream for my next bout of poultry!

So I will just get the 7 Polish (S/R) and the 5 Spitzhauben Pullets. I suppose this means I will get some "packing peanuts"! They had better not send cute Packing Peanuts! I wanted to show my (ultra-religious) family what crested chicks look like, so I Googled "Polish Chicks". DO NOT GOOGLE "Polish Chicks" UNLESS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR PICTURES OF SCANTILY-CLAD WOMEN, SUPPOSEDLY OF POLISH DESCENT!

Well, happy Monday to you all, it is snowing here!
