Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

I didn't watch the game either but unfortunately I started the countdown to when my chicks are shipping. 16 days to go, which means the time is going to go really slow now!!

I had terrific luck selling eggs on ebay! Right now there are a few duck and goose eggs on there and they are going high and the pictures of the birds are nowhere near as nice as I imagine your birds are! (and no, I am not buttering you up, I don't want any eggs, I am stopping this incubating madness before I end up on Animal Hoarders!)

Ebay is kinda like Walmart, really BIG and kinda commercialized, but A LOT of people shop there!

I am twice as likely to bid on eggs on ebay if they offer a "SURPRISE BONUS", like a few extra eggs from a different breed or variety.

I know how you feel! I have to stop the incubating also. not incubating anything else until I get my guinea eggs, which I know I can rehome quickly (no one cares what gender they are and they go really fast so I can incubate a lot of em.. and they are uber cute as babies, even better!).. I don't want to end up on hoarders either.. I was watching that one lady that had the 29 birds and the 'bird room' and was thinking of my cage (for the month olds) and my brooder (week olds) upstairs in an emptry bedroom.. D'oh!

I have always been fascinated by Guineas, but they have been forbidden by my DPs!

Well, they don't get noisy until at least 8 weeks old or so, they just peep like chicks. Do what I do and sell the keets off. I hatched out over 50 last year (90% hatch on shipped eggs!!) and sold 33 keets right off the bat. Sold 17 later when I realized 17 12 week old guineas were too loud for me. They were really sweet - I am hoping to get some of 'my' eggs when they start laying from the folks that took them. It may depend on the ticks where you are - ticks are heavy in my town, so everyone wants guineas to help control them.

After all, more chickens means more eggs

And more eggs means, more chicks, and more eggs mean more incubators and more incubators means more chickens!

And it's educational! The circle of life!

I am afraid to place an auction on ebay. I would like to try it, though.

Just got the confirmation that my duck order will be shipped. I'm excited about it...but they changed the ship date to 2 weeks later. Hmmm....

Why? I think your eggs would go amazingly well!

What are the possible downsides that make you fear placing an auction on there?

I have seen peoples posts here on BYC not to buy ebay eggs, that breeders on ebay don't have a clue...(when it comes to Ameraucanas, I'd have to agree). I've seen some nasty comments from people that their eggs didn't hatch (ebay people) and they blamed the seller and gave negative feedback. That stuff scares me. All I have is my reputation...and if the PO messed something up, or the person who was hatching messed something up, I can't control that. ALSO, I'm not all that familiar with ebay...it is overwhelming.
