Really why?? Are you going to replace with other layers?? I love my layer flock the very most. But I am slowly making it out of some of my favorite breeds so I can have the best of both worlds.

And have a rainbow egg basket too!

I need room for other breeders. My layers are sweet birds, but I don't need their eggs. I have several that are going to be missed. It is my way of culling so I can expand into better quality birds. There are 2 I will keep until they are old, old, old and can live out their lives in my house if need be.

They are like lap dogs!

It is not warmer here, but I can't do it in the house anymore!!

I fill their waterer and they drain it in 5 minutes and it is splashed everywhere!!!! So my plan is to give them the goose house since the goslings choose to sleep outside.

It is a huge insulated dog house type thing with 2 doors that can be shut on it. So my plan is to put a smaller watt heat lamp inside the structure and then make them a small wire circle out one of the doors so they can eat and drink on sandy dirt outside( hoping this will help with less water mess) and then lock them in the duck house for the night. This is all inside of a fully enclosed with wire small pen. I am really hoping the ducks and geese can share this setup for a while and then when they are old enough to lay and nest etc.. I will probably separate them for breeding season. It really is the perfect duck/goose house for a small number of them. I was even thinking I could put a wall in the middle of it for nesting areas. The baby chicken chicks will be out in the big coop in a horse trough with a heat lamp.

You are LUCKY! I can't wait to get these ducks outside. The wind is too much at my house...even with a heat lamp and wind barrier, it gets pretty cold. I just wish it was warm enough to open up the windows in the house! 27.8 degrees right now. Ewww. Spring is never coming!

Sigh, I am about to leave for a week and REALLY hoping that all my chooks (and gooses) will be ok while I am gone!

Here is a shot of my "adult flock" from left to right: Honey the goose, BA pullet #1, Homer the gander, then front to back - Little Man and his 3 girls, Lavvy the Bantam Wyandotte Splash,White Cochin Pullet, White Silkie, BA Pullet #2, MR BA ROO (crowing), Partridge Silkie up against the fence, Grumpy pants - Silkie/ Ameraucana mix and finally Blondie my EE. Not pictured - Simone on 12 Maran eggs and Mama also a black grumpy pants mix, sister to the other GP!

My geese seem to be getting along with the chickens nicely! I watch them for hours and both breeds keep away from each other!

You have a really pretty flock! *sigh* I wish I had a nice big run like that! I just have to let my chooks free-range so they don't get "cabin fever". Right now they have spring fever even worse than I do, which HAS to be pretty bad!

I am proud.. Just went to TSC to get layena (I really really wish we had a feed mill around here) and didn't buy even one chick! They had silkies for $1.99, but if I am going to buy straight run, I'd rather hatch them myself.. Also the 'tetratints' and the production reds. Seemed like they were all out of duckies.
Got my 'chick central' poster from manna pro today and had to go get a poster frame for it. My DH was able to correctly ID most of the breeds we have from the poster. YAY.
