Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :
I tryed to get her to take my broody hen and 4 chicks...but
I had my broody and her babies for sale on Craiglist, but no takers. I can't imagine why, I had the picture of her on roost with them and a price tag of $60, that's a fair price for a mama hen and 6 babies, right?
Ok, so I didn't REALLY want to sell them, but at least I tried!
I have an ad up right now for assorted chickens for $10 each. I got rid of 10 so far this week, and I am NOT going to the feed store to look at the assorted bantams they just got in, unless the lady I talked to this morning shows up at lunchtime today and buys some chickens. If she buys some, I TOTALLY need replacements, right?
If you are ever bored and want to meet an "interesting" person in your community, put an ad up on Craigslist for a CHICKEN FOR SALE! Instantly you will get multiple emails, some with sob stories if they KNOW the ad has been up for a few days and the item is probably gone! Here is an excerpt from a response I got recently "I wish I had the money cause I would buy some but please keep this email in case you dont sell any" It is a nice try, but one of my main motivations for selling some chickens is that I am in credit card debt and behind on payments because I have spent WAY TOO MUCH on chickens! (Actually it was the $400(ish) dollars I spent on EBAY on hatching eggs that got charged to my credit card!
Maybe I should give some away, maybe I need the good karma more than I need the money. Hmm...
Add to that my chickens are getting BIGGER and I am now hauling 5-7 gallons of water a day out to the chicken house. 41 chickens and 2 geese get thirsty, I guess! Add to that, there are sub-groups that stay in their "turf" and WON'T drink if they have to go near other chickens to get to a waterer, because they are afraid of getting pecked!
Then my little hopping Araucana, 'Tiny' has his own little food dish and waterer. He has a bum leg, permanently extended behind him, NO idea how that happened!
SO, I need LESS chickens, so the existing birds have more room and I have less to take care of! I will try (kinda) to NOT buy any more bantams today (unless they are REALLY cute).
