Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

I tryed to get her to take my broody hen and 4 chicks...but

I had my broody and her babies for sale on Craiglist, but no takers. I can't imagine why, I had the picture of her on roost with them and a price tag of $60, that's a fair price for a mama hen and 6 babies, right?

Ok, so I didn't REALLY want to sell them, but at least I tried!

I have an ad up right now for assorted chickens for $10 each. I got rid of 10 so far this week, and I am NOT going to the feed store to look at the assorted bantams they just got in, unless the lady I talked to this morning shows up at lunchtime today and buys some chickens. If she buys some, I TOTALLY need replacements, right?

If you are ever bored and want to meet an "interesting" person in your community, put an ad up on Craigslist for a CHICKEN FOR SALE! Instantly you will get multiple emails, some with sob stories if they KNOW the ad has been up for a few days and the item is probably gone! Here is an excerpt from a response I got recently "I wish I had the money cause I would buy some but please keep this email in case you dont sell any" It is a nice try, but one of my main motivations for selling some chickens is that I am in credit card debt and behind on payments because I have spent WAY TOO MUCH on chickens! (Actually it was the $400(ish) dollars I spent on EBAY on hatching eggs that got charged to my credit card!

Maybe I should give some away, maybe I need the good karma more than I need the money. Hmm...

Add to that my chickens are getting BIGGER and I am now hauling 5-7 gallons of water a day out to the chicken house. 41 chickens and 2 geese get thirsty, I guess! Add to that, there are sub-groups that stay in their "turf" and WON'T drink if they have to go near other chickens to get to a waterer, because they are afraid of getting pecked!

Then my little hopping Araucana, 'Tiny' has his own little food dish and waterer. He has a bum leg, permanently extended behind him, NO idea how that happened!

SO, I need LESS chickens, so the existing birds have more room and I have less to take care of! I will try (kinda) to NOT buy any more bantams today (unless they are REALLY cute).

Well, Cass pointed out that right down the street from me there's someone looking for baby chicks on CL. I wrote him back since I have lots of baby chicks...he (no name, but gotta be male) HAD to have them by saturday (I pointed out that they were way too old for Easter chicks and are no longer cute and fuzzy) and he didn't want white chickens. Hmm. Then he wanted to know could he have all girls (these are 2.5 weeks old). Told him sorry, too young to sex and for the price I am asking they come straight run. And he had to have six. I pointed out that TSC has red pullets right now, so he could go get those.. much back and forth about meeting and now it's 'well maybe tomorrow if I don't have some already'. okies. LOL.

Dude, if you're reading this come get these chicks! LOL.

I worry about C/L people reading my posts on here, but I don't say anything insulting! It was a nice try to get free chickens and I do think it is a LITTLE strange to drive over 200 miles to get used chickens. (Not that I have driven 120 miles to buy chicks, those aren't used chickens, at least!)

If the used chicken comment isn't funny, see the movie 'Secondhand Lions', and then come back and re-read my post! I think I am hilarious, but sometimes movie references are required to understand my humor!

Craigslist FLAKES! Grrr. I tend to overinform people on my ads. Yes these are true Ameraucanas, they come unsexed, etc., etc. It never fails, people tell me they only want females. I had one person from upperstate email me at 6:45 in the morning saying they had to have 8 chicks, to please get back to them as soon as possible so they could make arrangements to pick up their female chicks. I sent an email back at 7:13 am that I can have 8 chicks for them, but they come unsexed like I said in the ad. They are too young to tell the difference. I got an email back within 5 minutes and she said, oh, thanks anyway, we picked up a bunch of chicks last night and are no longer interested. WTH happened within 30 minutes of their URGENT emails wanting these chicks? I'm still dumbfounded by that one.

OK.... I guess I have to join the CAA afterall. Went and picked up my chicks at the grain store that I ordered this morning, and came home with an additional 12 RI reds. BOY IS MY HUSBAND TICKED!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA He needs to build me a whole new coop to accomidate my new egg laying flock

Well....my mom actually "ordered" them for me. I told her to get RIR and come to find out she got something called a Golden Hall. I have never heard of it but apparently they are a cross between a RIR and some white breed. Has anyone ever heard of it? I'll post a picture of them when I get home in a little while. Have to head to the doc with the kiddo.

Well 5 new chicks today. Two are from Mrs. Fluffy Puffy's eggs!!!

It reminds of me a mouse!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!

I started counting chicks in 2 brooders and lost track.

With the help of DH and the kids, I'll try again tomorrow! I think I have a "problem" if I don't know the exact number of chicks/chickens I have. Agree?

Meagan: I don't know the exact number of what I have either, I do try to count them, but it's like counting buzzing bumble bees. They move too much!!! Even the big ones! I will anxiously be awaiting your numbers.
