Well its been some months since my last post but my hens are laying strong now and with a few new members joining in. My Rooster look great and for the most part don't fight. Got plenty of eggs, lol.

1 Partridge Rock Rooster, 1 Salmon Laveroulle Rooster, 1 Columbian and 1 Buff Brahma Rooster. 6 Partridge Rock hens, Salmons, Columbians and 10 Buff Brahma's.

Finally, the thread I have been looking for... I was going to start with 6 or 8 (DH was NOT interested in the chicken thing). Well, the hatchery I wanted to use required 25 minimum. first box arrived with only 8 alive so they reshipped 20. Now at 28 and there are at least 3 more breeds that I just won't be able to live without. Our first flock is 3 weeks old today and we are going to 2 chickenswaps/shows next month. Think I will still have 28 by the time June rolls around? I don't think so. Oh, and I have caught DH cooing over the babies on multiple occasions. I think that once the eggs start coming he will be joining this thread...

I know what you mean Jerseyhen. My DH is a huge enabler. He didn't used to be till we started hatching and he started seeing there are more than yard birds out there. He loves the silkies we have. When we do out winter hatching he wants to keep them all but he does leave it up to me to pick who stays and who goes. Off to the auciton we go and always bring something back. We went one time with intentions of selling and not buying and ended coming home with 2 full grown turkeys, a goat and 5 banty's. Not only did we buy the animals but had to buy cages to put them in and we're in a car. So the grandson ended up holding the goat in his lap all the way home and had a cage with the turkeys in the back seat with them and the banty's in the trunk. Along with a few extra small cages he bought. We looked like the Beverly Hillbilly's on the way home.

The last swap was almost the same. Went to sell the extras from the winter hatch and came home with a rooster that he talked me into. But he tells everybody the birds are my thing. He just builds the cages and pays for the feed. Yeah Right!

At least it something we both enjoy. We will sit out back on the patio that is right between the pens and watch the chickens and watch towards the woods for deer.

Some days there seem to be too many chickens! However, those brief moments of sanity are largely overshadowed by a FIERCE desire to BUY MORE CHICKENS!

I did sell 3 pullets this week, however, I immediately spent the proceeds from the sale of those 3 on 6 (or 7) LAVENDER Ameraucana/ Silkie mixes! Oh and 1 EE mix called 'Red Thing' - who I hope is a pullet, it certainly is a very sweet, well-mannered bird! If she is a pullet, I have promised her a re-naming! Maybe 'Ruby' Hmmm....

I think I was at 55, then we lost 2 chicks while I was out of town. Then I sold 3, and bought 7 this week, which I think puts me at an even 57! Good number! I don't think I want to sell any more!

When I returned, my Mom announced that 'Lavvy' had gone broody in my absence and Mom gave her 4 eggs! So, she has an EE egg which may or may not be fertile, as the last time I saw him try, the EE in question ran, with the bantam OEG dangling from her neck!

The other 3 eggs are either pure OEGB or SIlkie/ OEGB mixes. I only have the 1 tiny little OEGB rooster in season currently. The other big roosters got rehomed!

There are some awkward juvenile roosters who may not live to be adults if they don't leave my Yokohama rooster alone!

Hi, My name is Amy. This started out with us buying 6 little chicks from TSC. I now have 48 little chicks running around and keep looking for more. I am definitely addicted to chickens. Looking into Ducks and Peafowl as well.
