glad to see I'm not the only one who gets in trouble when I'm bored:D

Well, I just told my mom (I am staying with my parents while dad has some health issues).

At first she was like "OH NO", in a grumpy, "I'm going to make you cancel"-way, but then the fact that 25 Silkies set in (Mom LOVES Silkies - she named my current 2 Silkies 'Queeny' and 'Muffy')! I think it is going to work out!

Spending time over on the Quail Forum has taught me about "beer sexing".

I will explain........when you have birds that you just can't tell the sex on you grab a lawn chair, crack open a beer and sit there for an hour or two just watching them and you can sometimes figure out what they are.

It worked on the ducks. They always run from me and not a single one has a "drake feather" yet so I have just been watching them and listening over and over and I am positive I only have one girl now. So if you like beer you should try it sometime.

Now that I know what gender my ducks are, I sit here and say to myself, "Why do I have ducks???, What am I going to do with them??"

What are you going to do with your ducks Meagan, what is their purpose in your life?

I have them because they are cute, I have chickens for eggs, I have my geese because they are like puppies, I have ducks because???

I was hoping for a colorful duck egg basket...and possibly sell the eggs at the farmer's market. Or barter my duck eggs for a pedi/mani from the Vietnamese-family owned nail salon one town over from me!

Funny, I am not "in love" with my ducks like I thought I would be. The geese and chickens have more personality.

We are determined to eat a few.

Ducks are loveable but I don't think they give a rip about their human caretakers.

Mine only like the feed bucket. My geese love me and follow me with out a single expectation of food. I love to watch the ducks but I am not "in love" with them either. I think I will just keep 6 total and let them hang with the geese and maybe they will eat bugs for me. I will try their eggs, but I am scared I won't like the taste. There sure are cute and pretty though.

I will for sure try them when mine get big enough to lay eggs.

Any tips on getting the ducks to actually like me??? I would love it if they didn't run in terror from me. I try treats and they take a 1 second glance at me and run for the hills! I am getting 5 new baby girls this weekend and I want to spoil them and start them off different in hopes that they will sorta like me.
