Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Hi, my name is Lynn, and I have a chicken addiction.

LOL, i started out with a batch of chickies from the sale about four years ago. I am up to about 70 or so now.

Me to hubby saturday morning - " I think we need to expand the chicken house"

Hubby - "Oh Really"

Me - yes, we need more roosting and egg laying space

Hubby - Oh Really

Me - yes, and then we could get some more chickens........... And I know just what other kind I want

Hubby - Oh Really

Me - Yes
Hubby - just shakes his head, But I know what he is thinking...........means more work for him, building and hauling feed.

Me - Well R.W. what do you think ?

Hubby - sheepish smile on his face, well we might need a bigger chicken house

Me - Oh Really

Hubby does not know it yet, is in denial........... He is addicted to:weee

I started with 6 chicks. We wanted 4 but the people at the hatchery told us to get 6. Why? Not exactly sure... But 2 died so we were left with 1 White Leghorn and 3 Rhode Island Reds. We stayed with that for 3 years. My dad didnt care my mom hates the chickens so does my sister. My chickens only got my love

So now 3 years later- here we are with 3 chicks, we put them in the coop. Bored hens=1 chick down 2 injured

My Easter Egger chicks how survived are getting better and the one with the wing injury (Chul, my avatar) can fly now!!

When I get a big enough yard I was atleast 50 chickens and ducks! I want so many animals!! I think my hobby of taking care of animals has turning into a addiction!!

Yes, welcome to the new members. Lost a few temporary Hen houses this morning to the crazy lighting storm. It was like a shooting gallery at my house and a disco club all at the same time. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep and my older sister is visiting with her three kids and I foresee little sleep in the coming week and a half....

I set some FBCM eggs in the incubator a few days ago, hoping for a much better hatch rate then I had last time!

. Just wind damage and some ruffled feathers. Had to find some of my RIR's, Silver Speckled Hamburgs and the Geese lost their home.

With all the family over I didn't get as much done as I would of liked but I so rarely see those kids that its ok, I'll just stick the Geese in the barn. Had to trick the Geese into the Barn with some corn mash and milk.

Oh, phew! You scared me!

It's lighting around and is awful cloudy in some spots.

I'm so excited!

One of my Seramas has pipped!

...But I think I see some goo-i-ish stuff inside the egg so it may, or maynot hatch on it's own.

We had a bad storm just show up so out of the blue yesterday as well. I was at work and had to call Dave and say get those 2 chicks in and do a lock down. He got the chicks in and one of the free range girls in the shed where they go at night but of course Tattle had to go out and stand under the tree again....Her sister Sassy is doing some strange stuff lately....She has always visited the neighbors house and is already back here by 7:30 to go to bed. We always start looking for her about 6 and the last 2 nights we can't find her. I was so worried that I hardly slept Sunday night and when I got up to go to work there she is wandering around the yard like no ones business. Same thing last night. Not sure where she is going..any thoughts or suggestions?
Also, I lost 3 of my Ameraucana's.

Don't know what happened, they were in their large dog house gone. These are the guys who are only 4 months old that I just got. Everyone was doing fine and healthy. Not sure if it was from the rain last week, high heat and humidity or??? Makes me want to stop having chickens. Now if only all the ones who should be laying would start, maybe I'd feel better..
PR, sorry you lost some of your housing but am glad everyone is OK.....

How old are they? I noticed mine start to act weird right before they start laying.

Awful sorry about the Ameraucanas! At least I'm not the only one that has thought of stopping raising chickens.

The Serama egg is still pecking away, I don't know how long I should leave it before I help.

My recent experience with my chick-o-holic addiction has been two incubators full of eggs. Saturday and sunday batch one starting hatching, ameraucauna, welsummers and the some crosses of each breed. Does anyone have chickens from the welsummer x ameracauna breeds ?
