My original reason to get chickens was so I could have eggs. But I really want some smaller ones...silkies... seabrights... I dunno. I wonder if my husband would notice?!?!

That's why I got into chickens too! Then we had one lonely bantam modern hen mixed in the LF flock and a cochin roo trying his best to seduce her. I convinced my DH that she needed some bantam friends

That and I had an extra run with no one in it

Oh no!! I have yet another broody hen.. Ack! I'd hatch something, but a) I have TOO many chickens and b) I have no rooster that's old enough to 'do the deed' and c) TOO many chickens! Hahahahhaa..

I have three broodies... or make that four.
roll.png
One is my Grey American Game hen, Tinkerbell, she is setting on 7 eggs, 4 of her eggs and 3 Guinea eggs, then Sophie is setting under the hutch on who knows how many eggs. Beepbeep, is setting in the garden in THE HOTTEST spot she could possibly find.

I threw out most of her eggs, but I think she is still setting on some rotten ones.

If I can get her to set in a cage in the yard I might give her some Serama or some Sussex eggs to hatch, but she doesn't want to leave her "Hot Spot"!

Then yesterday one of my Light Sussex girls stayed in the nest all evening and she was on the nest this morning...and still is a matter of fact.

Anyone around my area want some broodies and their clutches?

You want to borrow one of my roos? I know at least one of them is old enough, cuz he is doing it all the time.

Hahaha no, that's ok. I have too many roos, just they are a bit too young. I have one BO roo in that coop that is about 9 weeks old, then two roos in another coop that are 16 weeks old.. They are technically old enough, but aren't interested in the ladies yet (one is barely crowing). Plus five baby roos that are hopefully going to a new place in a few days. Enough roos too!

I'm hoping to find someone in my area that's buying one of the '25 chick sexed pullet' specials that I can snag a few chicks from - I'll let her ponder for a few weeks then she gets girl babies.

I was thinking of selling a few pullets before winter- this one that keeps going broody is a gorgeous blrw.. and she's moving up to the top of the list with all this broodiness.. grrr.

At least she's a very nice broody and doesn't try to peck me to death.

Chicken math has stricken again! Went to the livestock market this last weekend and saw such beautiful full grown chickens. I thought oh heck whats 8 more? I brought the darlings home and they fit right in with my 31 other gorgeous girls. Until, Sunday morning. I heard cock a doodle doooooo. Yep all 8 are Roosters. Being a newbie I had no idea they were roosters. We had a good laugh and will have some nice birds to eat soon. My DH started crowing to the tune of cock a doodle do, his version, "butcher me first". Every time the rooster crows I laugh so hard I almost cry. Still having fun!
