Oh good luck with your duck hatch. What breed do you have in your incubator? I'm eyeballing some Welsh Harlequins and Buff Orpingtons (yes ducks!) and Cayugas, Khaki Cambell, Saxony, and, and...I really have no clue. Just like my chickens, I want a few of each! And BTW, you have a VERY tolerant family!

Let us know how the hatch goes!

I saw Button Quail eggs for the first time in October. One could die from the overload of cuteness from a mere egg! Here is my question...and this is not to sound ignorant...what does one do with quail?

W/ other quail they're used for meat and eggs. Buttons on the other hand are merely just for pleasure. Mine are mostly pets that intertain me! Once you hatch them once...you just can't stop...don't ask me how I know that...

I always wanted chickens and when I lost my job last summer I took advantage of that because I have to stay busy. I ordered two light brahmas and one EE HEN from the hatchery. Then EE hen turned out to be a roo. A really nasty roo full of testosterone. We got our coop built, but at 21 weeks our brahmas still weren't laying; if I was being jumped every 1/2 hour by a roo I wouldn't want to either! I thought if I got just two more hens, that it would take some edge of my roo and relieve the brahmas.

I got three laying silver laced Wyandotte hens from a little girl in 4H. Yes, it took the edge of the nasty roo and he is approachable now! Also, some pressure must have been taken off of my brahmas because they are now laying within just two days of getting the Wyandottes! I have just ordered three black copper marans hens and a black copper marans roo to pick up in February. I really only intended on staying with the three hens, but apparently, not. I swear this is it!! After I see if I can get an olive egg!

There are so many beautiful breeds out there! I would love to have some favorelles too!

You chose a nice combination of birds. They all meet my approval!

But just you wait...you think you are in control! However, you are merely on the threshold of chicken addiction...it'll get you soon enough!
