Seramas are small, right? If you want to build something, I would check with a local construction company to see if you can have leftover materials. Go to your hardware store and ask if they have culled lumber. Usually you will find some good lumber that has minor flaws. Even a dog crate would work...but not outside as its own structure. And IdealisticRoo is right. We'll help you out if you need it.

The ducks are coming! Welsh Harlequins and Saxony from Holderread's Waterfowl. Can't wait! Should be here in April.

And I have a tentative order for Runners, Cayuga, Rouen, Blue Swedish, Buff, and Gold Stars from McMurray. I just want their eggs! I am going to raise them with supplemental water to play in. I don't have a pond, and have been told they can have a full life without water. I figure so could my kids, but swimming is a lot more fun. So the ducks will get the kiddie pool in the summer months.

We can't blame bargain on this.

I blame my addiction and winter boredom. I really wanted ducks and geese last year, but I just wasn't ready. This year, we will be ready! Plus, with Holderread's you have to order before January. No geese in this order though.

I posted this on another thread, but since I did it kind of "Died" and I need a quick reply!

I have 8 + 4 more Button Quail eggs that are going into lockdown Saturday evening, hatch days the 11th and 12th. My problem is that I have 3 more button eggs that were set 2 days after the 1st and 2nd batches. They're due the 14th. Then I also have 2 chicken eggs due the 17th. I have a 1588 Genesis Hova-Bator - it has the full view plexi-glass on the top so I can view the hatch process etc. I am going to town tomorrow and I'm going to get some of the rubbish shelf liner stuff for the incubator and the brooder. I do have another incubator, but it's a homemade one that a guy gave me and I know it hatches but the temp is 101-102 steady and it has automatic turners but it gets stuck and won't turn so I have to turn them by hand. I'm stumped! What should I do? I would prefer not to move the other eggs out to the other incubator but I will it need be. I was thinking I might be able to just take the turner racks out and put some rubbish shelf liner in the bottom then put the racks back in and place the eggs that are due the 11th and 12th on the bottom and take them out as soon as they hatch. Like I said before, I have to go to town tomorrow so I won't really be hear to watch over them. Also, how is the best way to put the shelf liner stuff in? Just take off the lid and put the eggs under a heat lamp or something until I get the 'bator fixed up?

ETA: I'm worried about the humidity as well. I've been filling up the water trough in the middle, and I was going to fill up both troughs at lockdown, but I'm afraid that too much himidity might hurt the other eggs.

I wish I could help you. I am not familiar with hatching quail, so don't want to offer advice that wouldn't help you. Can anyone else step in here?​

I went ahead and plugged in my other incubator. I'm going to let it sit for about 30 minutes before I stick the 1st two batches in. I'm going to put them in a little box so if and when they hatch they can't run and fall back behind the 'bator. Hope I'm doing that right thing!

I don't know anything about quail eggs, but this is what I would do......
I would move all the eggs that are not due to hatch into the other bator, and as soon as the hatching is done in the first clean it, set it back up and move the next due date eggs back into it...
As for putting in the shelf liner... I know for a fact that eggs can come off heat for short periods of time ( well at least with chickens... Never done quail ) I took my eggs to school once ( 15 min drive ) on Friday and Monday I just wrapped them up in a towel to keep them from bumping around too hard. Then I took the incubator on a little ride back to my house (Or the school ) without any heat for the 25 min or so it took me to wrap em up take em home and un-wrap them...That does not even include the reheat time. Had a 90 % hatch and the others were duds/early quitters so... I figure no harm done, Even a mother hen has to get up to eat and relieve herself occasionally.​
