Hello friends, I write this from the road, having left my chicken coop for a 2 day road trip to pick up my grandmother who has been visiting her cousin.
I am worried about the chickens, not being home to guard them. I put the rooster out in the field (so he wouldnt stand on the hens) and the geese in the yard (so they would eat the grass, instead of expensive feed).
My friend is going to take care of them while I am gone. He got explicit instructions as to who gets put up at night and let out during the day!
I passed a Murdoch's and a Big R on the way here, I stopped at the Murdoch's so I could look at the baby chicks!
I saw several with little pasty butts, but I thought I might get strange looks if I were to ask for a warm washcloth.
I am driving back home tomorrow with grandma, will I be able to resist buying more chicks? It is only an hour from the Murdoch's to home. I was good this week and I did not order any more chicks, even though I REALLY wanted to! I could just get a few!!!! Maybe a few of each breed. Oooh and the bins are self-serve, unlike the Murdoch's in Denver! As long I was putting 1-2 in a box, I could pet them as long as I want and pick the cutest ones out of ALL the bins! Waaa-Haaa-haaa!!!
I think they had brahmas, white rocks, ameraucanas, red stars and New hampshires!
I did not specifically ask for permission on this batch, I think this is a matter of "easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission"! Isn't that how it goes? I imagine grandma will sit in the car, instead of walking around a farm & ranch supply with me to look at chickens. This way I can't be forbidden from buying any!
Daisychick, you want me to pick you up any? Any chicks or feed?
I noticed they have Purina Flock raiser, I asked about FLock Raiser at the feed store and they said they could get it, but it would be 2 weeks! I said to order me some, I plan on calling Monday to confirm that it has been ordered. I prefer to buy locally, but It does seem odd to have to special order that 2 weeks in advance!
