Snowdays are the best...when you don't have anywhere to go! DH had the day off anyway, and of course school was cancelled, so we are all hanging out chilling for the day. I love it. Plus he can go out and feed the chickens in this schtuff.

This was just a little while ago. Snow is still coming down. I have 2 boxes I couldn't get out to ship today, so they'll have to go out tomorrow! Featherz...did you get a state of emergency, too?

Cute chicks!

Holderreads is awesome...great quality, great knowledge. Of course the enabler in me says DO IT! Go in on an order w/ Chandra! The minimum order is 10 in a box for ducks. If you don't want show quality, I think most ducks are around $4 each. Not bad prices. www.holderreadfarm.com Check out their website. I used Meyer's hatchery (I think it was them) to cross reference duck info. This year, I'm hoping to get a colorful duck egg basket to go with my colorful chicken eggs!!

The sensible part of me says NO, DON'T DO IT!

The geese are just 1 month old, and there are goose "pellets" every where!

If I don't have a place to keep geese, other than the lawn, where am I going to put ducks?

However, they are really cute! And VERY expensive!

I also have not sought parental approval on this matter yet.

Approved list:

"A few" chickens (60-ish is a few, right?)
2 geese ON A TRIAL BASIS, if they are loud or tear things up, they go to live at Chandra's!

One of my coops has an open run with snow and the princesses (chickens) who won't touch the snow are getting stir crazy. they started pecking their eggs! no no no no. I got them out before any 'eating' had been done (seems they just pecked a pip and got bored) but now I am paranoid. I need to shovel the run, but not bothering until the snow stops. ..

I just checked the website...the prices have gone up since I placed my order back in December. The bantam ducks are WAY more expensive than the ones I am ordering!

Ooh! Ducks! But I... must... resist... Mom barely let me get 6 chickens and I'm already pushing the limit by looking at a 7th for showing... Better not even ask unless I want WWIII.

Ok I am not going to order bantam ducks. (yet) I have been doing my research and I was hoping on putting the ducks in same general area as geese, but I think the geese would kill my ducks if they are way smaller than them. So I am leaning more towards med. size ducks which are way cheaper!!! Unless I make a bantam coop and put bantam ducks in with bantam chickens. Oh you just never know with me.

Well, I officially broke the news to DW

that after the pig is gone, I plan to build a new larger coop in the location the pig is in. She didn't say yes or no.

Probably figures on crossing that bridge later.

Wild Trapper: You think just like me.

Did you see my post above on how I got rid of 4 horses and so I will have to get enough chickens to replace the room that 4 huge horses took up!

So you getting rid of your pig will indeed leave space that needs filled up. I hope she goes for it.

Well our pig is kind of a pork project, not like those congress critters are always adding to us tax payers, more like a DIY food project, so she has a few more months to finish out. What I plan to do for the new coop is build it on skids and either put it on rollers or push it into place with the tractor. Either that or relocate the pig to a new location, either way I got a coop planned. If I actually get it will be another story. I thought of buying a used tandem wheel trailer and build the coop on it, move it around as needed. Then if we ever sell and move, just put some tags on the trailer and off we go.
