Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Ah, just looked out the window and I see a bunch of our momma cows up lined at the fence eating the leaves and bushes that are inside the fence.

Silly cows!

My Blue Brahma hen finally hatched out some babies! She has two chicks so far, and tons hatching. Two new babies hatched under one of my cochin x brahma hens. They're so cute! I'm up to 13 broody babies now.

Oh, did I tell you I filled up one of my GQF Sportsman trays the other day...

They aren't all for me...30 are for a friend...

That's awesome! Congrats on the broody babies!

No...don't show me these cute pictures. I don't have room for ducks. I don't have room. I don't have...the willpower to resist them.

You are hilarious! The great thing is that ducks can go with your chickens. They are just a wee bit messier. If you had a "few" that would work out well! Just saying!

Just a wee bit? that's like saying guineas are a 'wee bit' noisier than chickens. hee hee

Thanks for clarifying Heather!

Guineas are apparently a wee bit noisier than chickens!

Ducks are a wee bit messier. Geese are a wee bit scarier. Turkeys are a wee bit larger.....

Speaking on guineas, I gave away 4 of my Lavender guineas last night, along with a very annoying rooster and a hen to go w/ him. Now I'm left with 3 Pied, 2 Pearl, and 2 Lavenders ( both of which are females

)

I'm fixing to list an ad on CL for bantam hens and mixed chicks ... *sigh* how did I get so many mutt chickens?

I love the looks of the lav guineas! If I could have an all lavender farm, I would. Anybody ever seen those all white gardens? I thought it would be blah-boring, but they are sooo pretty.

Define "a few".

A *WEE* bit messier? OMG, they are soooo messy, I put my Mallards out in the pond at 6 weeks and told them to sink or swim, I couldn't take the mess any more AND THEY WEREN"T IN THE HOUSE....they were in a porch area....they ruined the floor there and it was covered with a tarp. (At 6 weeks they have the oil gland to waterproof themselves. Before that ducks with a momma duck get oiled by sitting under momma and she preens them with HER oil) I want duckies really I do, but I have 12 - 15 chickens coming in less than 2 weeks. WHERE would I put them? Right now I am having problems figuring out how to tell Ray he needs to fix up TWO brooder areas cuz my chicks are going to hatch at 2 different times. (Some are already hatched!!!! Just waiting on the Amerucanas....silly birds are late in arriving) And the other set of chicks to hatch too. I'm gonna be hip deep in chicks in about 14 days.

You do realize that I am going to have to quit smoking to be able to afford to FEED all these chicks, right?

I can't imagine still being a smoker at today's prices! I quit when they were $2 a pack. They are $9 here.

I think a few would work out. I made the mistake of putting my 13 ducklings WITH my 20 or so chicks. The chicks were SOAKED and a messy nightmare in one night. We had to keep 2 small ducks in with the chicks, and they did fine together. But I will never put so many ducks in with poor chicks again. It was awful. Also, they were so smelly all together in the brooder. I can only imagine the joy in having just 2 or 3 ducklings to start with! So...I stand by my earlier statement, that having a "few" ducks are a wee bit messier than chickens!!!!

They're very pretty, but the males were just too noisy and they wouldn't stay with the Buff Orpingtons, instead they'd come up to the yard and scream and roost in the tree.

I spend $17.71 every 2 days for smokes. That's a bag of feed every other day. I have to quit so I can afford chickens. Chickens are so much more fun than lung cancer anyway. Now ducks? They can be fun, but they run away and I am too old to catch them. Maybe next year I'll get geese. They are just a wee bit messier and bigger and scarier than ducks.
