Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Well here I am and I never thought I'd have to join but

I guess I need to get it out in the open for all to see. At least I'm not alone in my addiction which for a long time I thought I was, I started with 11 chickens, we adopted a mama hen [game] and her game/bantam chicks 2 years ago and now I have been up to 36 chickens but am down to 24 now after having to give some roos an new home in the freezer.

[don't hate me] I thought there was only ducks to have as pets since I had started with them 7 years ago, but now I know different Chickens rule the roost and are as much fun as ducks, [don't tell my muscovies that though] and we even have a house duck, never thought I'd admit that one. So now I have come clean, I hope I can continue to come and get everything off my chest and listen to others talk about their addictions as well, Oh and I forgot

Well, my gorgeous RIR roo is off to freezer camp this weekend. He has been attacking my DH for the last few weeks, but after being decidedly put in his place has just remained at a wary distance. This morning he attacked me while feeding him scratch and with my 8 yo DD less than 2 feel away. (Who can trust a chicken who ignores scratch to attack??) Seriously though, I'm afraid he'll attack when my kids (4, 4, &8) are in there visiting the girls and I can't just pass him on to someone else to become their problem. I'd feel guilty. And he DOES have some beautiful drumsticks on him!!

Sooo...anyone have adivice for plucking a chicken??

Then I'm going to begin the search for a nice, calm BO roo...

We skinned ours this time we put 6 roos in the freezer, skinning is much easier than plucking and faster too. look on the meat birds thread or google you should be able to get the info. Is this Hopes daddy? will she never get to meet him? [just kidding]

Anyone know what type of chicken this is? I have three of these and I am very curious. I'm new to backyard chickens and new to owning chickens. I have 3 barred rocks, 1 white leghorn, 1 buff orpington, and 3 brown girls that I have no idea what they are. They look identical to the one in this picture.

Thanks to IdealisticRoo, I believe I know what my 3 brown 6 week old chickens are. I am almost positive that they are Partridge Rocks. Thanks, again to IdealisticRoo fro getting back to me so quick.
