The addiction only gets worse. You get the chickens, then you start naming them. Before you know it you don't go out with friends cause you have a great idea for your coop and chickens. Finally you stop calling your friends back cause they just don't understand how to speak chicken. Arghhh!

Now THAT is VERY true! I have made some amazing chicken friends over the past few years, however. And we have more in common than just chickens, so it is all good! It balances out the friends who just don't understand raising chickens!

Do you raise the extra boys up for meat??? That is the only time I have officially owned pigs is when we had 2 we had for 6 months to grow out and send to the butcher. And in 4H where we did the same. I love pigs but have never got to keep one for the long term.

I'm in touch with local and state FFA and other community groups and will probably sell or donate some boars and sows to them. The rest I will keep maybe one girl piglet and butcher another one.
I'm starting to wonder though if the Tamworth hog I got is a dud though as Martha "the Tamworth Sow" is in heat again. Before the questions come in she has been checked for fertility and for illness and she's fine, I'm waiting for results on the Boar. He has no problems mounting her or doing the deed.
