Oh yes, the Olmstead Homestead will run a Home for Elderly Hens & Roosters at some time in the future.
I jumped into the Chicken Keeping hobby with the intention (in this order) of utilizing free fertilizer, enjoying bug control, and as an afterthought, FRESH EGGS! Never with the thought for meat - how could I eat Bernadette? Or Buffy? or any of them? I knew I'd name 'em, but I never thought I'd get attached to them as much as I am. Not ever. I didn't even consider they might have individual personalities! That was very surprising - and wonderful to discover.
And the stress relief. Oh my. My physician has already lowered my BP meds to mere minimums. I love watching 'em, talking to 'em, listening to 'em.
They can live here as long as nature will allow.
