My darling wife and I were stranded in rural Virginia with a flat tire. Broken jack. No cell service. No humans in sight.
What were we to do?
I started jogging down the road, hoping to find a phone or, hopefully, a jack. After 20 minutes (I guessed 4 miles or so; I'm an optimist) and not a single house in sight, I turned around and headed back, hoping that help lay in the other direction. When I finally returned to the car, I saw my lovely wife was sitting on the fence with tears in her eyes.
I told her that I was ok and not to cry. She just pointed at the flat tire, laughing:
We made it back safely. Now we have 5 of our own (chickens, that is). And we never knew that it would be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!
Thanks, BYC!

Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
