Chicken snake caught in the act!!!

Wow, here we call that a bolt cutter and yea it would do the job. The snake I was struggling with was very wiggly and threatening to our rooster to get away. I guess I needed help to secure it cause the looper looks like it needs two hands to work it properly. I had on sneakers and shorts with bare legs and could not hold the sucker down with the dull hoe (didn't want to risk a bite on skin cause of the size). Thanks for educating me on how to do more than just cause bruises. z
Loppers are quite different than bolt cutters. Much sharper and you can trim trees with them. A snake would be no problem.

I found this one in my hen house going through ceiling and sliding down wall. Needless to say I carry a gun or 12 gauge by garage door. I got hens out safe. What can I do to deter snakes? Sulfur?

Good grief, that snake is as big as you are woman! Wow! Unfortunately, we were not so lucky and put out a product called "snake away" which did it's job and smelled like cracked mothballs. The chemicals in mothballs did the job and so far has deter snakes of all kinds if you put them in bands around the chicken coop. I think directions say 2-4 inches wide for grass snakes and 6-8 inches wide for rattlesnakes (in two solid bands with sprinkling in between the bands) which worked for the snakes, but not our pesky fighting rooster who nags Whistler upsetting the whole hen house by keeping it up in a roar. These chickens were given to us by a neighbor (but he forgot to mention the mixed bloodlines with fighting stock and they constantly peck the weakest who died yesterday morning from the abuse). I have never seen such violent tempers in chickens toward each other! Good luck on your success with getting rid of pests (in all forms). z

I've killed a pair of chicken snakes in the past few days. The first one I had seen the day before, and I was going to let her live since she was on the other side of the property from where my coop is. The next day she showed herself much closer so she met the hoe.

Yesterday I saw what was probably her mate about 20 feet from the coop under some cedar trees my chickens like to forage. The shotgun handled him with ease.

They do seem to travel in pairs, but since I am in city limits (and not a good shot) plus it is irresponsible for me to shoot my mom's weapon...I applaud your solutions. I have a garden that keeps getting raided by a wild fighting rooster, any suggestions to stop him from pecking off my newly surfaced plants?

I know this sounds bad. But, am acre or so away from me my neighbor had only 1 rooster and no hens. One day he ventured over and started raping hens. Lol. When I proceeded to run him off he was trying to get me with his spurs at a running pace. 12 gauge handled him great.

Sorry to say, but that was not the rooster's fault. He was doing what comes natural. Shouldn't have harmed him.
